Date Navigation work around?

Since the Date Navigation block is broken in recent versions of C5, has anyone got a work around I could use for my blog site?

Given that I am not a coder, instructions need to be broken down sorry.

I believe it's fixed in 5.6.2.1

I am using Composer for blog content and the block is empty on the page once I set all the correct parameters.
