Deleted pages still show up on 'Setup on Child Pages'

Hi,
This whole setup on child pages is driving me insane. I have 2 templates and I'm trying to use the same navigation block on both. Due to the hugely confusing 'set up on child pages' thing I ended up deleting all of my pages and starting again from scratch with a single page for each page type.
When I go to Setup on Child Pages all of the deleted pages are still there, confusing things even further. Does anyone know how to get rid of them altogether?
