Development Tools

Thought it would be interesting to hear what applications people like to use when developing with C5. I'm an old school Mac guy, I mostly use SKedit for coding but I'm thinking it might be time to switch it up. I think Flux is pretty interesting, although I haven't been using it so much lately, I don't like all the inline CSS it makes. Acorn is a cool little graphics editor and of course Photoshop.

So Mac or PC, what are you favorite apps?

one essential tool I use related to C5 dev is Remo's sqlBuddy - so nice to have that right there in your dashboard when trying to trouble shoot.

I use TextWrangler for all the PHP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS I write. I realize that's kind of insane. I'm sure there are a lot of tools out there that do more (TW's big brother, BBEdit, for example, or Textmate, which people love, or Coda). But something about TW I can't give up.

I have tried to love Coda repeatedly but I can never add it fully to my workflow. I'm not sure why.

I use the basic OS X terminal application.

I love Transmit.

Safari as a browser most of the time, but Firefox 4 is really quite nice on the Mac (and I have to use Firebug from time to time – there's just no other way to do certain things, even with Safari/Chrome's developer tools.)

I use Photoshop but I feel like another tool might suit me better these days.

For mockups I love iMockups on the iPad.

I used to use OmniOutliner to outline feature that were coming in various versions, but now that's mostly managed in a text file or on the whiteboard in the office ;)

VMWare Fusion is pretty indispensable. IE9 on Windows is surprisingly good.

On my mac I use:

Text Wrangler -> html, css, js, php, misc
Cyberduck -> FTP
GitTower -> Git
QuickPreview(built in) -> looking at source code without opening files
Chrome -> Web browser with a bunch of extensions
Dropbox -> Sync files
Mamp -> Local web server
Gimp and Photoshop -> Image editing
Total Finder -> Organize files and tabbed finder (a must for anyone who deals with a lot of files on a mac)
even though its a web app, I use it a lot,
Podio,http://podio.com -> planning, QA, info store, and any number of other things (check it out)

I might have forgot something, on my pc,

Notepad++
FileZilla
WinSCP
Photoshop
Chrome
Dropbox
Xampp
IETester

I primarily work on linux:

Bluefish, Gedit, Nano for text editing
Photoshop via wine for graphic work
Firefox with Firebug and Web Dev Toolbar
Virtual box with a Windows install for testing
PHP MyAdmin for SQL
Sagasu? for mass finding
Kompare for diffing
Samba
Filezilla
A ton of terminal...

I leave my mac for primarily graphics work:

Master Suite CS5
Coda, sometime Dreamweaver for text editing
Been playing with Kod a bit, the syntax highlighting is wacky though
Terminal

Skype on both for communication
Gmail...
Ton of web apps
