Disable page types when adding a new page

Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hello everyone,

Like the topic says, is it possible to disable certain page types from the "Add Page" menu. I got 13 page types total, and I only need 2 of these page types to show up when a new page is being added.

All the other page types is already in use, but i don't need those page types to be used on new pages.

I hope you understand my question.

Thank you in advance. :)

Hi

Pages and Themes - Page Types - Edit Page Type - Delete Page Type

i hope you find what you're looking for.

But won't that, well, /delete/ the existing page types?

If you have advanced permissions enabled, you could attack the problem that way. But I agree with you that there should be a better way of customizing the display.

I understand your question and agree that it gets annoying to have so many page types that were only used for one or two pages. Unfortunately there is no way to hide those. What I do is put an underscore in front of the page type names for all of the ones that don't need to be selected anymore -- it's not perfect but at least it moves them over to the end of the list. (Note that I'm talking only about the page type "Name" which you edit in the dashboard -- *not* the "handle and *not* the template filename).

I hope to contribute a fix for this to the core some day (if time permits), and also was thinking of having an option to display all page types in a dropdown menu because it's a pain in the neck to scroll left and right when you have over 8 or 9 page types (which unfortunately some sites do).

Advanced permissions will allow that, but the super user will always see them no matter what.
