Domain Masking

I need to know how to mask the URL for a website. In the Cpanel,http://www.website1.com is set up as a redirect towww.www.mymainwebsite.com/website1.... I want visitors to seehttp://www.website1.com in the browser. I have found bits and pieces of how to do this but nothing is working.

Actually, come to think of it, this is something you can do by changing settings on your domain.

Depending on who you registered your domains with, you can set your domain to do this. Here is how to do this for Godaddy:

That procedure is pretty common, so depending on who your registrar is, the steps may be different.

This is a website I'm doing as a favor so I really don't want to spend money for an add-on. The hosting is through Hostgator and their response to masking is: "While it is possible to create a masked forward that would display another website's content under your domain, this would require custom coding that is not supported."

It might be possible for you to do this by editing the HTACCESS file.

I found something on this here:

Although, I'm not sure if that will work on Hostgator.

In cPanel, find Addon Domain and create one. Make the root for it the directory that this c5 install is in.

Make sure the example1.com domain is pointed at the IP of your cPanel account and you should be good to go.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

This is probably a silly question but do I do the AddOn domain in example1.com or example2.com?
