eCommerce UPS Add-On Questions
Permalink
Has anyone out there made use of the eCommerce UPS add-on? I'm thinking of recommending it to a web dive client of mine but the developer hasn't gotten back to me with my initial questions...
My main question is whether or not the add-on uses a UPS account number to access the UPS online system for pricing? According to the UPS tech people it would basically have to do this but I would like to here straight from the mouth of someone that's actually used the add-on.
Here is the whole list of questions that I'm trying to get the developer to answer in case anyone has enough experience with the add-on to answer them:
I'm on the verge of recommending that a web development client of mine purchase your UPS Shipping Add-On. I do have a few questions before we commit.
1) I'm assuming that the add-on actually queries UPS' online shipping system to provide purchasers with relevant shipping rates and options. True?
2) Will the add-on use/access my client's UPS account during the purchase process? In other words will my client's UPS account have a record of the shipping request when the checkout process is complete? Or, will the purchaser have simply paid a rate calculated with the aid of the UPS system? (In which case my client will then need to negotiate the actual shipping order separate from the purchase of the product.)
3) You list "Free Shipping discounts" as one of the add-on's features. Does this mean we have the option to for example offer free shipping on certain products or purchases above a certain amount?
4) I'm assuming that the add-on will calculate the UPS shipping rate based on UPS' current public rate for a given destination. And, that if my client has a UPS account which provides for discounts for business owners that my client will be able to receive/apply the discount on his end separate from the rate the purchaser has paid? In other words the purchaser, for example, is charged $12.00 for shipping by the add-on - when my client does the actual shipping his business owners discount may bring the actual cost to him down to $11.00. True?
5) In the event that UPS does offer my client significant discounts is it possible for us to pass those savings on to our purchasers somehow via the add-on? Either within the add-on's admin functions or within the connection the add-on might make with our UPS account? What I may be asking here is if it's possible to set up discounts by percentage within the add-on?
6) You state that the add-on uses package size in calculation only for U.S. packages. Is this because UPS itself does not factor package size when shipping outside the U.S.?
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to your reply.
