Elemental Theme - add a pause to the slider

Dear Community,
I've created a copy of the elemental theme and made some minor modifications.
We are using the provided slider block, with the "dots" instead of arrows. I've been asked if there is any way to add a pause to the slider.
Has anyone accomplished this? If so, can you share what steps you took?
