Email on webfusion vps

Hi All,
I have published a site on a vps from webfusion, I have an issue where when I use the form block to send email it goes to HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
I have set the email to use an external SMTP server and added in the details of an email account I have with the hosting - but this still brings up the same issue.
I have not ticked notify (but this would need to done) I have not used a captcha. I have tried sending it to my gmail account but same error happens.
Webfusion support gave me a port to try but that hasn't worked and basically they said "Unforunately we are unable to assist with PHP configuration and mail forms on the VPS platform".
I hope someone can help.

I can see that you have already contacted our support team about this issue.
