Express Associaton not required

Hi,
I created two related express-objects:
teachers and schools.
They are associated with a N:1 relation.
In both express-default-forms the associations are displayed.
It is not possible to create a new teacher without selecting a school - and it's not possible to create a school without selecting a teacher.
How to change the association-fields in the form not to be required?
