file manager JPEGs do NOT show thumbnails

how can i get the file manager to show tunbnails ?
If your pictures are extremely large or very small, they will not show as thumbnails. What size are your jpegs ?
they are all sizes. from avatars to wallpaper...jpg and .png
what siszes specifically work ?
btw, it behaves the same in every browsers i've tried, and on windows, and linux mahcines.

here is an image from a windows 7 x64 machine using firefox 10.0.1
Usually if the file is very very small like 2 px x 2 px there is no info to make a thumbnail from, also very very large pictures 6000 px x 4000 px, there is too much info to condense. At least that's why I think very large, and very small don't create thumbnails.

no, and many (if not all) images are of normal size, (1536x2048 is the largest) also some are resized to fit banners, and are all viewable from the page itself.
many pix were taken with a cell phone (HTC g1), some others were manipulated through windows paint or linux gimp, but almost all are just cell phone pix.
One quick thing to try would be rescanning. There is an option in file manager to rescan images, screenshot attached. Other than that you can check through a bunch of forum posts by typing no thumbnail into concrete5 search bar. There are many issues that can cause this usually starting with database, and host.
(first screenshot didn't take so 2nd one is there now circling the option area. You have to have an image selected for the options to drop.

doesn't work..ive done that 2 separate ways...i also rightclicked on the file box and selected 'rescan'.

check the root/files/thumbnails/ folder and files permissions are set to 777

Your chmod at MOST should be 0755, 0777 allows everyone to do absolutely everything, you will get hacked.

however, i don't know where c5dir is...but i do know how to access the filesystem...
i found my pix in the string below, yours may vary.
home/my**site**/public_html/concrete/files/thumbnails/ **each file is in its own folder/subfolder and then placed.
now, going through the permissions, each file has a 6 4 4 status, and read is allowed for user/group/world. (in 1 test file)
i change the 1 file to 7,7,7 to test, and it reverts to 6,4,4, after i refresh..it will report it changed to 777, but always reverts back to 644...even though i am root (well, it said i was, but i didn't actually login to a terminal as root, so i must not be (actually root).
yet, no change...i just don't get the thumbnails...is it time for chat with tech support ?

do you not have ftp access (login & password) to the concrete installation
Try changing the /concrete/files/ folder permissions to 755, apply to files and folders and select to apply changes recursively

ive also gone into the "image manager" from teh control panel, but all the directories are in a different tree, and still not working
tried going in through the bluehosts control panel, with image viewer, and thumbnail viewer, and also checked the image sizes...some are 300x500, all very basic stuff, yet still no thumbnails.
I have found that if you are using the "save for web" feature in Adobe Photoshop, you need to make sure to check "progressive" for the jpeg file type. If you use the "optimized" it might have issues and not show thumbnails. Once I made these changes to my photos and re-uploaded the thumbnails appeared. If any still don't appear try the "rescan" method built into the concrete5 file manager dropdown selection, or simply view the photo properties from the file manager and click "rescan".
