Form Validation - Checking against existing records

I'm trying to use a standard Concrete5 form to collect email addresses for a mailing list. The built-in validation will confirm whether the submitted value is a valid address.

But is there a way to compare the submitted address against existing records to make sure the person hasn't already registered?

Hi there, ProForms can do this with the "do not allow duplicates" option for standard text, phone, and email QuestionTypes. Just an FYI.
