Galleries crashing everything

I've installed both the Flash Gallery and the Sortable Fancybox Gallery. When I try to add either of them as blocks, here's what happens: I get a message saying that the block has been added, and little empty red block box where I added the block. When I publish the page, not only is there no block, but the dashboard disappears from the top of the page, as does all the footer info. My header image and global header nav remain, and I have to use a link to navigate to another page, go to the sitemap, and delete the broken page. Because this has happened with two very different galleries, I'm convinced that the problem is on my end, but I have no idea where to start looking. Any ideas?

They probably have duplication of a JavaScript resource, either between the two or with something else on your site, or with something in your theme.

For example, both the fancybox gallery and popup login include their own copies of fancybox. If bot get loaded, you end up with JavaScript breaking.

Have a look in the developer console and it will confirm.

I checked, and there was a js error regarding an undefined resource - unfortunately, I know zero js. This was on my homepage, which I couldn't delete, so I uninstalled the gallery, which totally broke the page. So I deleted the site and am going to reinstall concrete5 (this might seem rash, but I hadn't done much development yet and I really saw no other option). Perhaps a fresh install will remedy the js issues...or I just won't use a gallery on it.
