Google Webmaster settings ok but poor ranking
Permalink
I can usually get my clients on to the front page of Google searches but my latest site seems indexed by isn't anywhere to be found. I have correctly done SEO metadata (to my knowledge)

I have listed with Google Maps and Google+ too.
Any ideas? Has Google changed the rules?

Thanks.
Yeah I use Google webmaster tools and try and keep up with their changes. Thanks for the tip on the free software.

It came up in Google number six when I searched for 'Central Drainage and Earthworks'
One thing I noticed, you've got two start <html> tags in your markup, probably a good idea to validate your HTML and fix it up. You might want to use Google Webmaster tools to check for crawl errors and other problems.
A couple of suggestions:
- I think your titles and H1s would benefit from a few more contextual keywords. You might want to add the words 'Rotorua, Bay of Plenty' to both your title and h1 tags where appropriate. Even just looking at the site normally I don't really get a sense of where this gentleman offers his services (until I get to the contact page)
- Google doesn't use the keywords meta tag any more I believe, you might find you need to move some of the keywords you've put in those into the actual content and headings

Thanks for your tips. Yeah, I could do with paying more attention to the title tag and h tags.
Given how you ask your question and the fact that you are not aware of google changes, I am going to assume you are not an expert in SEO and just do the basics (which is fine that's what we all do)
In that case, you just can't win every time :)
