Google will charge for maps next year. Switch to another service?

Since Google announced that they will start charging for the maps service soon, maybe it would make sense to switch to another service for the build in core maps-block? "Leaflet" might me an alternative for example:http://leaflet.cloudmade.com

What do you think?

i think you may have been reading some of the more excitable press.

Google is only going to charge sites who have not paid for premium service and who regularly exceed 25000 google map lookups per day.

I don't think that is going to affect an awful lot of people.

True lain, the limit is really quite high. But on the other hand concrete5 should still be suitable for sites that have that much traffic, right?
Maybe it's also more of a general decision of proprietary vs. open source solution. My opinion is that C5 should be as independent from proprietary solutions as possible.

I do see your point, but it seems to be mostly focused on whether google should be the core mapping service and the trigger for the thought is the press.

I don't think the very small risk of google starting to ask a user for cash due to usage should be the reason for changing it. I guess it's a balnce beween open source which is desireable and global usability which google maps supplies due to its all pervasive nature.
