Greek Yogurt Layout

Hi,

Trying to recreate a page I made in another theme that allowed one column, or a right or left sidebar.

In, Greek Yogurt it seems to only have the two column, right sidebar layout.

How can I add the slideshow above?

You can go with main page, and than add a layout to the area. Intead of adding a block add an area and you can set as many columns or rows that you would like. An easy way to do this is to add the 3 column, 1 row default, and use the left column as main, middle column as a spacer, and the right as a sidebar, or vice versa. The sliders can be moved to create as much or as little space as you want to each area.

The other way is to create a page type with .php, and put it in your server than link the page type in the dashboard.

I tried to add a layout, but since it's already split into 2 columns (the main section and the sidebar), it just adds it over one or the other.

I need to supercede the 2 columns and have one column above the 2.

I really don't want to mess with the php, that's how into trouble before.

Isn't there another way? I thought of changing themes to plain yogurt, do it there, and change back, since that's what I started with. I think there are more options and it looked ok there.

You need a theme that has a single column layout among the available options to do things the way you are describing. I believe Greek Yogurt is one of those themes.

If you click the Edit button on the dashboard there is an option called Design. You will be able to choose "Full" as the page type and you will no longer have the sidebar to worry about.
