Help with Concrete5.7.3 Blog Creation
Permalink
Hi,
I have created a blank install of Concrete5.7.3 (latest version) and I've been trying to create a new blog for my site but I am having troubles.
I've followed this guide:
http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/manually-set...
But I still can't get it to work. I don't really understand what to do? I noticed the guide link above is a bit outdated.
Has anyone any experience with this?
Thanks

I did an install with the data and had a look but things are all over the place. Page types, attributes etc. It's not very user friendly so I agree, it would be great if someone could update that guide.
ProBlog makes things much easier fwiw :-) shameless product plug. I realize not everyone can/feels like spending money on addons, but they are there to be helpful and bring usability and features into the experience that are quite remiss in native C5. Worth considering.

Hello!
I am in the same boat too!
Desperately trying to find out how to set up a blog? Everything else looks nice and simple to follow...
I did find this, but it's creating a package, not sure if this is what we have to do, seems a little complex.

If anyone has any pointers I would love to hear / see them.
Cheers Ali

Hi Ali,
I managed to sort it out with my Concrete5.7.3 version. Here is a guide on how I done it (quite some effort):
1) Create a page type called Blog with the handle "blog"
2) Create another page type called Blog Entry with the handle "blog_entry" and the publish method at the bottom select "Choose from pages of a certain type" and select "Blog"
3) Go back to Page Types and click on "Edit Form" for the Blog. Then, create a set called "Details" and add Page Name and Page Location.
4) Go back to Page Types again and click "Edit Form" for the Blog Entry. Then, create 2 sets called "Post Details" and "Content".
5) For the Post Details, add Entry Name (Page Name but renamed), URL Slug, Short Description, Blog Entry Topics and Page Location. If you can't see Blog Entry Topics, you'll need to create a topic tree for it.
6) For the Content, add Thumbnail and Content
7) Go back to Page Types and click on "Output" for Blog Entry. Add a "Composer Control" and select "Content" from the dropdown and then publish.
8) Go back to Page Types and click on "Output" for Blog. Add a Page List control and set the following options:
Show 5 or 10 posts (however many you want to appear per-page in the index)
only show the "Blog Entry" page type
sort them with most recent first
only show pages "beneath this one"
DO use pagination
DO show an rss feed
do NOT check "truncate summaries"
9) Click on add page and then select Blog. Call the page Blog and select a location to publish.
10) Click on add page and then select Blog Entry. You will now be able to create a new blog post.
If you need any help let me know. Cheers

No problem.
You only need to do all them steps once. After that you will only need to repeat step 10 to add blog entries.
Good luck :)

yes, that guide is for previous versions of concrete 5.
Concrete 5.7 is pretty different, many things have changed.
If you're not a experienced concrete5 user, I'd recommend installing the sample content so you can see how everything is set up (the blog, the portfolio, etc).
Anyway it would be nice if someone could update the guide for concrete5.7

Jordi
