I know the post is old but I got here looking for something else, someone else might get an answer.

All user are set up the same and displayed in the members area. We are going to set up a new group (there are none when you start), put any user you don't wish to appear in members in it and they will no longer appear in the members area.

1 Go to dashboard choose add group
2 Name the group whatever you wish, I used administrators, there are options I didn't use them. Click add.
4 Go back to the dashboard choose search users and select the ones you want to exclude from the members area.
5 There should now be a Group (in this case) called administrators, check the box to make the admin/user a member of the administrator group. Save the changes and that user will no longer appear in the members area.

There is an image attached that shows the administrators group I put in some time ago, and for this instruction I did it again and called it test.
