Home page == Single page or page type?
Home page usually differs in design from pagetype is it best to make this a single page instead a new pagetype?
by default if you make a page type called home.php it will automatically be used for the homepage.
yes, but I think what he means is that it's a bit wired to have a page type for a single page...
single_pages would sometimes be a lot nicer. Being able to replace the homepage with a single_page might be quite handy.

Is this now "old" information? Reading on single_pages, it appears they have all of the same functionality of dynamic pages within your chosen theme. Why would a single_page pose a problem if used as a home page?
Hi. I have a question. WHAT is a PAGE? I have read all the info about the answers to "what is a page", but I still don't know. The Concrete5 website has, up at the top:
About Community Developers Marketplace Services Documentation
Are each of those a "page"? Is "About" a page? Is "Marketplace" a page?
Please reply. I need help.

Yes.. every 'title' is a page. Home, about, contact etc..
The marketplace is a page.. but each addon or theme has its own page. So when you click on an add-on.. you'll go through to the page which contains that add-on.
Hope that helps.

I asked the same question a long time ago and Andrew wanted to look at it but I think he never found a nice way around this.
At the moment I also create a new pagetype for a "homepage" which differs in design from the rest
