How can you 'see' pages in Auto-nav display - but make them temporarily INACTIVE (non-linking)?

I have a client that wants to have their portfolio projects (construction) show up on the MAIN category page, but until they have photos to display, want them 'unclickable' to navigate to the actual pages. Check outhttp://www.scheibelconstruction.com/project-gallery/recreation/... --- this is the main category page. The last two projects have no pictures -so- the client wants to 'see' them on the category main page, but until pics are uploaded, does NOT want the visitor to be able to click on the page name (from category nav) to go to the actual page. Any thoughts? I was thinking that I would need to create a custom attribute but do not know where to start. Thank you.

Just add an external link to the sitemap with the "#" as the URL.

Then it won't be directed any where :-)

Thanks so much for your reply - I tried this but it didn't work - when clicked, the visitor is still directed to the page. I also tried using another the URL that redirects to the MAIN category page...I also tried the advise found on "Create menu-placeholders in the auto-nav" which I found in the forums - this did not work either. I'm all for trying anything to make the sub-page link null (until the page is populated with images) yet still appear on the category page. I'm still at a loss.
