How to do htaccess rewrite to a different subdomain?

My client's C5 site is hosted athttp://www.my-client-site.com. They want to rewrite the URL tohttp://customers.xyz.com without reinstalling C5 in the "customers" subdomain in the xyz.com domain.
Is it possible to do this or is it easier if I suggest them to reinstall C5 site inhttp://customers.xyz.com and just do a 301 redirect from other old domain to the new subdomain?
