How: transfer complex theme to mobile theme

Hi

I am looking to a way to create a mobile friendly site from a quite complex layout with several new areas and globalareas.

Does anyone have an idea how this can be done easily. The main page is not really mobile friendly (byte size quite large).

Hi,

Have you tried creating a separate mobile theme and having C5 display the correct theme based on the visitors device?

There is more info here:

Cheers,

Hi
well not yet. Since the theme is - in my opinion - quite complex I was hoping there is an easier way then to recreate it completely.
Also, looking at the schoolbus theme (http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/themes/schoolbus/... ) which adjusts so nicely to different screensizes I was hoping it would be possible to "put my theme into this" .... sort of.

If it turns out, that the easiest way IS to create a completely new theme, well, but this would need to be done. Nevertheless the current site is uses many images in sidebars - but also navigation and text in the same sidebars (on different pages).
I am not sure if it's possible to create a goog mobile page from the current base.

It sounds like you need to recreate the theme.
There is no easy way, that I know of, to backport a static theme to a responsive theme. You can try it but I imagine a lot would break.

With an ever growing part of people using mobile first it is a good idea to design your site with this in mind. Take a look into bootstrap (http://getbootstrap.com/) and other responsive frameworks.

I'm currently in the beginning stages of a project modifying a responsive theme to completely match a non responsive theme i use. A huge part of making this happen is to edit the page type files and be sure to place all the correct areas / global areas where they need to be to match your non responsive theme.

Hi apc & enlil

@apc. I will check this out - but I am assuming I will have to redo it - and ... convince the customer to take some bytes off the page in general.

@enlil. I am not sure how to take your suggestion, but I will try to create a theme from ground up (probably) and simply place areas (and globalareas) first... see what happens.
