htaccess redirect to subdirectory?

Our site has been hacked and I am wanting to get the browser back to pointing at the home.php in the correct subdirectory.
I have a splashpage up at the moment (index.htm) in the root.
I presume this is done through the htacces file but not being a programmer I am at a lost on how to write the htaccess file.
Help please - urgently!
