HTML Block Contents Storage

I can't seem to find anything on how a block's info is stored. Is it stored in the DB or in a HTML file or what?

In the database. c5 has some behind the scenes tricks so the contents appear in a variable in the controller and view (so you don't actually see the sql or need to think about it for most blocks).
