HTML link down page not working?

Hi everyone!
I am trying to link 'down the page' from a different page.
First I attempt to place <A NAME="linkhere"> on the target page, then I add #linkhere at the end of the standard link from the source page.
However, 1. it never works, 2. whenever I check back on the HTML on the target page, my <A NAME="linkhere"> has vanished!
