htpasswd errors in edit mode?

Very strange things happening now.
I currently am helping a woman who's hosting a site through Concrete5.
The site is up and the DNS has been pointed over but now after I added a htaccess and htpasswd file to hide her site during development I can't see the topbar for edit mode?
The default theme is being used and the htaccess and htpasswd files have now been removed.
The bottom of the theme shows that I am logged in but I can't see that top edit bar anywhere.
Any thoughts would be great.

And most of it is made quite clear in the C5 platform.
This had nothing to do with an htpasswd file being added to the site (which has caused issues with Joomla in the past).
The user accounts I created were never added to the administrators group.
