I'm back taking another look at Concrete5

I've been here before and still I have not made up my mind on what to do regarding my website.

At the moment I am with Yola.com. I need to change to something that is free as in cost and free as in freedom.

My current website was designed by me mainly using html and css. My site is very simple and there is no business angle to it at all. It's basically a content driven site containing interviews and radio shows I have done.

I don't mind starting over again with some help from the Concrete5 community. The part of my website I am most proud of is the Radio Archives link. After a great deal of agonizing on how to organize my playlists and shows, this is the best I came up with. I needed something that was easy for users to access.

Now maybe there is a better way to do this in Concrete5? Maybe a whole different approach? This is where I would need help. The other pages on my site were made with html tables to organize the data. Now if there is a better way to do this in Concrete5 I am open to all suggestions.

I basically want to keep things simple in layout and simple in design. Fingers crossed :)

The other two CMS's I am considering are ModX and Wordpress. At least Concrete5 presents you with a basic page when you first log into it.

Here is my website:http://www.mcran.com

Look forward to some constructive feedback and some hand holding along the way. I will also take a look at the Concrete5 videos out there. The version of CC5 I am using is Version: 5.6.3.1. Hostmonster is my hosting provider.

Thanks!!

Firstly, I would make sure that your website is responsive (mobile-friendly). Concrete has plenty of free and paid responsive themes to choose from - some plain, others more complex in design. If you go to my profile, you will see that I have some themes (some free, some paid).

Out of the box, you should be able to do everything that your current site has.

For the "resources" page, it looks like a list of links. In that case, you may want to take a look at the "Link List" addon:https://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/link-list/...

For the "interviews" page, I suggest one of these addons:
- ProMediaPlayer:https://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/promedia...
- Simple Cast:https://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/simple-cast...

Also, you may want to take a look at "Audio Library":http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/audio-library...

Yes, these addons are paid. However, you'll get better support than you would with free addons from Wordpress or Modx.

I hope that is useful to get you started.

If you are still considering another CMS, check out my website (built with Concrete):http://www.cmsguide.info

But.. I hope you choose Concrete!

I really have to make a decision as to which CMS I will use and I hope it is Concrete5 as well If I can create my site without adding paid plugins etc..., I'll be happy. When I was using Rapidweaver, it worked very well regarding the creation of websites but I soon discovered that the added plugins etc... started adding up. So if I can get by in Concrete5 with available free options, that would be great. Even if I have to totally redesign my site in Concrete5, that would work as well. I'm very flexible.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions!! Right now I am going to scan through Youtube for some Concrete5 beginner videos that explain the basics of CC5 so I can get a good understanding of how things work.
