Include ecommerce product attribute in search index

Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hello Everyone,

I would like the site wide search function to include product attributes in the search index.

I got a product attribute called "Item number". I want my customers to be able to find a specific product by inserting the "Item number" in the search field.

Is that possible ?

Thank you in advance.

It would also be nice to have the option to let customers filter their search results by certain product sets. That would eliminate having to make a duplicate product attribute for every product set that I want the customer to be able to search by.

Or make it so that products can be filtered/searched on the backend with product attributes... one or the other - I don't like that there's a set of filters for the front-end and a different set of filters for the backend.

Also - 87up - I have a website where we added a product attribute for part number and it eventually started showing up in the normal product list block search results. I have the part number visible in the product detail block.

I'm not sure if it's just the new version (5.5.2.1), but I see now that you can specify whether a product attribute is searchable and whether it is searchable as an advanced field.
