Install Folder

Question: Does Concrete5 have to be installed in the root (top level) of my domain site? ie: domainname/public_html/
I tried putting the unzipped files in a folder below the public_html root to do a little experimenting and when running the install routine I got an error about not finding the "jobs" folder and the path it listed showed it was looking for it up one level.
