Installation problems

Can anyone help?

I am trying to install C5, I have setup a database but keep getting the message ‘can not connect to database’.

On my server the database is the same name as the username and I was wondering if this is why it won’t connect as my knowledge is very limited I am having real problems finding out why it won’t connect
.
I am using the 'mysql database' and 'phpmyadmin' interfaces on my hosting package but it is different than the one I have used before which had the option to have a different username to the databasename and C5 installed fine.

I have tried to rename the database but I am getting ‘access denied’ and I can’t find an option to change my username, I have to use the interfaces as I cannot write the code myself as I said my knowledge is very limited! I also don’t have the option of having C5 host my site so if I can’t get C5 to install I can’t use it and all my hard work to date will be wasted.

Thanks

How much databases can you create on your hosting? Does you mysql account has create, alter, update, insert, delete rights? Can you create other user accounts?

That's pretty much what I can think off. I had some issues connecting first, but the server wasn't localhost. What exactly do you enter in the installer (no username and password of course ;) )

Thanks Maynar

Apparently when I set up the database by default the privileges are

SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, CREATE, DROP, INDEX, ALTER, LOCK TABLES

I can set up a standalone user if that is what you mean by other user accounts and I am using ‘localhost’ for the server but I have tried using other bits in front of the localhost from looking about on my server. I have also emailed the host to check if local host and the other fields that I have filled in are correct but I am waiting for them to get back to me.

My host has got back to me and said that all the info I have used is correct, after a few other suggestions they have offered that I use their own CMS which is a real shame as I have to start again and all my hard work is useless.

So if the problem is that I need a different username to the database name to be able to install C5 then there is nothing else I can do.
