Integrated Forum or Embed external forum

Hello,
I am new to C5 and would like a forum for one of the websites I am trying C5 with. I have found the Discussion Forums Add-in from C5 and like it for the most part. I have no problem purchasing the add-in but my concern is that if me or the client at any point would like to switch away from C5 for any reason is the data from the Discussion Forums add-in exportable or convertible to another forum option like SMF, phpbb, vbulletin, etc. Can someone answer this question?
Also my other option was to have a separate install of SMF or phpbb and embed in into the C5 site. I have not been able to find very much on embedding any sort of page let alone forum software into C5. The other option would be to create a theme in whatever forum software to look very close to my c5 theme, but I would like the header links to pull from c5. Is there anyway to call the header into another forum software install?
Thanks!
Tyler

I really look forward to this, this currently is the main drawback to concrete5 over other cms.
Just going to post it here since it may be a while until it gets approved.
Docs:
First, download the attached and upload it to root/packages, and then install it.
Next, download and install vanilla forums and vanilla proxyconnect. Vanilla requires a minimum version of 2.0.18 to work with proxyconnect correctly. Vanilla should be installed in the same directory as the concrete folder, so if c5 is installed at website.com/cms, vanilla would be installed at website.com/cms/vanilla.
Finally, open the vanilla configure dashboard page on your concrete5 site and authenticate page in the vanilla dashboard. On the vanilla page, select proxyconnect and the manual setup. Copy the info in the concrete5 dashboard into vanilla, and copy the url of vanilla installation into the concrete5 dashboard.
You should be done!

Thanks, but I ended up making phpbb3 work. I've set it up basically where we don't use c5 for users/groups, and only have members login to use the forums. The forums are using dynamic iframe, and it's working out quite well. I looked into it, and Vanilla forums just doesn't have enough features built in to compare to phpbb3.
Unfortunately for phpbb3, there is no extension or bridge available that supports c5, so I'm forced to do it this way, but it should work out.
If anyone wants to see how I'm using phpbb3, site info is in my profile :D

I have looked at a few options and have found one that will "work" for my needs but still lacking in some areas. What I tried is installing Vanilla in a "forum" directory within my concrete5 install and a separate sql database. I then enabled the Embed plugin in Vanilla and used their embed code. This works great keeping everything inside the site but the one thing I am worried about is when a search engine finds a post it is going to link directly to the forum that is not embedded.
My solution in theory is to install any forum software (Vanilla, phpbb, SMF, etc.) create a custom template that matches my c5 theme. But I would like to pull the header from c5. The only page I can find which "creates" the header is in the theme, which would I assume include the nav, etc as long as the theme includes the nav. But header.php on its own references c5 variables so how would I or what pages do I include in order for the vars to work? I realize that some links, etc may have to change to include a / in front so they get to the correct place and I am willing to get that working I just need to know what page/file creates the header and footer so I can make a "wrapper template" so to speak in the forum software.
Sorry for being vague here just having a hard time explaining what I want to do.

I'm pretty sure the templates for phpbb3 are database driven, so I'm not to sure. I personally am not skilled enough in php to be able to get it to work, I'm only able to notice some syntax errors and fix them. Sorry :(
Hey i just want to say thanks for the plugin, it works but seemingly only on one account, the main admin account works once i click the sign in button but all the other accounts just redirect to the main forum page. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
i love israel
I have a vanilla forums integration thats been sitting in review for a while, going to be free.
