Integrating a listserv / email discussion group
Permalink
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up email discussion groups that all members of my site (small, community-of-interest based, specifically, the alumni from a specialized masters program) can subscribe to and send mail to.
I saw the "Mailing List" add-on which unfortunately doesn't support discussion groups.
So I want an email address along the lines of distribution@mysite.com, that 1) members can subscribe to on the site (e.g. in their profile, they can check or uncheck a box) and 2) any member can send email to so that everyone receives it and can reply to it.
I'm on Dreahost, which offers "MailMan", but it hasn't been working too well. Unless I'm missing something, the address it creates is distribution@LISTS.mysite.com (it adds the "lists" subdomain, which I want to avoid), and I tried going around that by creating an alias in Google Apps (which manages my mail), but it doesn't seem to work (emails sent to the alias don't bounce but never arrive). Furthermore, I'm not sure if it can be integrated with a Concrete5 site (as in, show on the member profile if they are subscribed or not).
I already checked in the forums but could not find an answer... So iIf somebody could point me in a vague direction I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Axel

I'm definitely not up for it - maybe I'll post something on the Jobs board...
By the way, MailMan not working quite like I intended was my own fault, it works like a charm now. However, I tried to poke around the back end a bit and it looks like integrating it may be a bit of a hassle.
Thanks for your guidance!
Cheers,
Axel

These guys may have a solution for you:http://mail-list.com
They run email discussion groups and will let you use your own email address.

You might look into this to see if it helps get you going in the right direction:http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/chat/question-about-andqu...
Have you contacted Tony (the Mailing List add-on creator) about this? Even if he doesn't want to do it, I bet he knows how and might point you in the right direction.
