Is it my site or my host?!
Hi!
Finally nearly finished my wifes website, and realised its running like a limping dog.
I host with UK hosts LCN.com on there shared platform.
They told me before I started they could work with Concrete5s requirements and I've hosted other sites on other shared hosts and speed was fine.
They have now told me that C5 is very resource intensive and that its asking for 64MB from php memory so I will need to upgrade to VPS at 22.50 per month. thats too expensive so I may move to 1and1 where I have better speed experience. But slightly scared about moving installation and messing things up.
However ,before I do, I was wondering whether any of the experts on here could look at site and say whether its the way I've built the site that might be causing problem, the theme or whether you think I should argue the case more with LCN?
Site is currently atwww.www.theatreworkshops.co.uk/c5...
Any ideas?
Mucho thanks

Try this attached file in place of your existing banner image at 32KB it is a significant reduction..
And this one in place of your other huge (in memory) young_girlsbanner image (713KB)
weyboat - thanks very much indeed will change these images and see how that works, thanks a again!
Bit of both.
You need to optimise your images, as weyboat mentioned.
You need to enable gzip from the server and add things to your .htaccess to help delivery speed.
Put your theme css before C5 javascript.
Use Firefox and Firebug to help with issues.
If you need any help with hosting, I provide hosting services based in the UK.

Thanks for the tips there, not sure what most are but will google and investigate and try what you suggest.
On hosting if this doesn't resolve will be looking for new host who can deliver UK based so please let me know costs and details - no particular loyalty to one and one.

well thanks everyone I finally got host to give a few months free on vps which has bought me some time.
They move it across for me and I initially had some issue with images being missing until i changed /files permissions to 777
However I then need to move the site from theatreworkshops.co.uk/c5 to theatreworkshops.co.uk
I did this by downloading files from /c5 to my pc with filezilla and the uploading to the root directory.
Currently the site is at both locations
The site is working but has the old logo on there despite looking okay on my machine in some pages, and also it keeps flicking back to the /c5 pages.
The contact page is blank unless it flips back to /c5/contact
When I log into dashboard it forces me into /c5 dashboard.
I know i'm doing something dumb, but any help would be much appreciated!

You can see that the servers Time To First Byte is appalling at 16 seconds and you have an image called cinderllabanner which is 795 KB in size..
Moving to 1and1 is no great problem just make backups of your database and a complete copy of your files and folders before you go..
