Issue updating Designer Content module after successfully updating C5 from 5.5.1 to 5.5.2.1

Hi,
I've got an issue updating Designer Content in C5 after a successful update to 5.5.2.1.
Whenever I run the update (i had to revert, rebuild and update the site multiple times) i get this crash and error, and it does not matter what i set memory_limit in the php.ini file to:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 1048576000 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 87 bytes) in /opt/apache22/projects/zuma_050512/updates/concrete5.5.2.1/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb.inc.php on line 1052
As you can see, in the last attempt, i even allocated 1G to the memory_limit and got the same result.
As a result, it looks like the update is installed, the link to the "designer block" UI in the C5 dashboard is still there under Pages and Themes, but when i click the link it just takes me to a blank page (with the C5 bar still at the top, though)
Anybody seen this? Just thought i'd drop a line before i started picking apart the php code.
