Issues with GoDaddy

Is anyone using GoDaddy as a host and experienced any recent problems with their site, beginning in March?

hi jaxjansen,

I have a site hosted on GoDaddy, and I've noticed that it has been incredibly slow lately. I figured it was because I haven't upgraded to 5.6.1, but maybe it's GoDaddy's issues. What sort of problems are you having with them?

We are having trouble logging into our client's site within C5, we get the following error:

The webpage athttp://www.kollegetown.com/index.php/login/do_login/...... might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 103 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_ABORTED): Unknown error.

There have been no recent changes to site, on developer or client side, so we are wondering if it could be the host...it has worked fine up until the beginning of this month.

I followed that URL, and the login page came up with that alert you were speaking of. I typed inhttp://www.kollegetown.com/login... and the alert went away. If pretty urls is enabled you don't need the index.php in the address.

Kurtopsy, C5 auto-directs me tohttp://www.kollegetown.com/index.php/login/do_login/... after entering my login...this is where I experience that error.

Johnthefish, to manually clear my cache, do I simply login remotely, from ftp, and delete all files in that folder?

I see, then I'm not sure if I know how to fix it then. I do know that if you re-name the cache folder on the remote server and then log in, it automatically starts a new cache folder. I usually rename mine to cache-old.

I would definitely feel more comfortable renaming, rather than deleting anything, only problem is, I can't log in to start a new cache.

The theory is that by re-naming the folder, it should clear the cache and allow you to login. Did you rename it and try logging in again?

I tried, didn't help :( ...thanks for the suggestion, sure was hoping that would help.

Actually, IT WORKED!!! We had to delete in chunks because server kept timing out. We determined that it is a combination of C5 and GoDaddy, because client has Economy pkg (free). It appears that C5's internal cache had gotten too large for the shared server...hopefully client will upgrade to dedicated server...thanks again for the suggestion!

Don't forget to set a lifetime for the cache. It can expire and get deleted automatically, that's an option in the dashboard.

There are other problems with using GoDaddy besides the fact that the pipes to the database are too small. When it comes time to move the site someplace else (and that time should come as soon as possible) you will find that you can't zip up more than 20M at a time. I couldn't get their FTP connection to stay stable long enough to download individual files and that made me afraid of corruption so I opted to try to zip them up. I was shocked to find out that they limit the zip to 20M. It was a 400M site so it took me all day to compress that site into multiple zips and after that experience, I left GoDaddy forever. They seem to have found a way to be profitable without satisfying their clients which is quite a feat.

Hi, this is my first post.. I actually found this forum trying to find a new type of CMS software to build websites, and found Concrete5. In reference to your Godaddy and Cache, I am currently using Godaddy to host several Zen Cart eCommerce sites, and Zen Cart prompts me to save and delete my Cache when it is a few months old. Does Concrete5 have that option? I mean, a 'warning'? My cache gets huge on the eCommerce sites. I am a novice and definitely looking for an alternative to WordPress to build non-ecommerce sites.. I used WP once and didn't like it.
I hope that it's ok for me to just 'jump in' to this post.. I literally haven't even been to the home page of Concrete5, and I don't want to break any forum rules, or be rude... but when I saw this topic it was definitely something that I was interested in. Headed to the home page now.... Thanks!!!! :)

Welcome to concrete5!

It would probably be best to start a new thread with your questions just to make sure that folks in the future can find concise answers to specific questions. Thank you for understanding and I'm sure you will find a lot of great advice here.

Not recently but I was their customer 6 years ago and it was a disaster. Their support is located in poor countries abroad and these people know nothing. Read more onhttp://usa.weloveourhost.com/godaddy.html...

As of May 11 2015, GoDaddy is having massive problems in their Singapore operations center. The site is causing significant and continuing outages to clients. The company has not done anything about this for over 1 week.

Please let me know if you are having similar problems.

@globecongroup... can you provide link to any evidence of this? I can't find anything.
