I'm trying to add a query photo gallery, and I'm not sure exactly how to implement it within the concrete5 structure.

Can anyone provide insight on how to add this to a concrete5 site?

You can use single pages or create a package for yourself. For both of them check documentation. Also for package you can get a free addon and check how it works.
