Just plain slow

Permalink
Ok my sites just seem to run slow. Like click on a link...count to 5...display content. It's consistent when logged in or logged out. On local machine or on hosted server. On Apache, on Windows. I've now used 3 different hosting companies for different client's sites and they all seem slow. Not, "unusable" slow. But "I'm gonna lose my mind as a developer waiting on this thing" slow. I cannot seem to find this addressed on teh forum (though i find them hard to navigate so forgive if it's addressed) But is this a common experience?

I find concrete5 to be faster on safari than firefox. I think it has something to do with jquery and the number of includes to render a page..

i also find, strangely, that comcast cable modem needs rebooting periodically and render time goes way faster..

I also have had this speed problem. Shared hosting is the main culprit especially with the connections to separate db servers.

Another thing, if the site is set in Development mode it will be a little slower. Make sure it is in Production mode. It is a bit faster.

there is a feature that needs to go away in concrete5 that lets you log all mysql queries. this is pointless and creates HUGE databases... that should be turned off for sure.

I've been using both IE and Firefox and find it a hair faster on Firefox. Haven't dont Safari yet but I'll try that too. As a compatibility issue, i dont think i'd be able to tell people they must use Safari for this site to run right...that could be a problem.

also, production mode? Is that a checkbox somewhere I've missed?

The fastest settings would be:
Dashboard -> Sitewide Settings:

most important would be:
Enable Cache
Don't log database activity.
