loading isotope in the header or footer ?

i have an isotope page setup to act as a filterable gallery with many, many images.
all works well, except the site is sort of slow.
isotope and init.js is referenced in the footer.
would it make a difference referencing it in the header?
or do i have to register it in the page_theme file?
