Making pop-ups look professional

When someone clicks a link on my site I would like a window to pop up which is smaller than full screen but I can't make this look pretty.

If I make it link to another page I created within Concrete5, it always has header and footer and side bar, but I just want a simple square window, preferably with a frame and background that matches the theme.

So instead I tried creating an image that I let pop up when the link is pressed. Then I have the freedom to design it however I want but it is all just an image so there can't be links, forms etc. But in this case it is ok. I used "Add content", insert/edit link, put image URL as "link URL" select "open in new window", use Java popup, and set a specific size, aiming so that the frame is slightly bigger than the image. But I've noted that depending on browser and PC, the image matches the selected frame sized more or less, sometimes the image is much smaller than the window, which doesn't look too good.

Is there no way to make Concrete5 automatically match the window size to fit the image perfectly? I've noted that in zencart webshops when you look at product images it does just that.

And is there no way to create a page within the theme which is a very basic square with matching colors and frame but without header, footer and side bars? To be used for pop-ups that are more advanced than just an image.

I've looked through the marketplace as well but searching for "popup" yields things that seem to be something completely different.

UPDATE:

To explain what I mean by "is there no way to create a page within the theme which is a very basic square with matching colors and frame but without header, footer and side bars?":

The first image shows what I usually see for themes under Edit Page / Design. However for this theme, only "Page" exists (not "Blogga page).

The second image shows what I want (no header, no footer, no sidebar)
