Member Image/File Attribute not Saving/Displaying

Has anyone had success saving and displaying an Image/File attribute in a member profile?
I've enabled the Image/File attribute for Members and added it to their profile. However, when you log in as a member, choose a file and save it, I'm not sure if it's saving the file or not. If it is, why is the file name not displaying in their profile? Or, is that not how it works?
