Messed up edit popup

I have uploaded all the concrete5 files to my server and created a MySQL database then made a successful install of C5.
But I have 2 issues:
1. the editable areas show but but the actual live area is is on a few pixels wide.
2. when I click and get the edit popup window then click edit I don't get a popup but a page in the browser whose links don't work. See attached.
Any ideas please?
