Migration from 5.6.3.5 to 8.3.1
Permalink
Hi,
I have successfully exported all the pages, users and stacks from the legacy 5.6 site. I have installed a new blank 8.3 site and then installed the migration tool. I have also installed the theme from the 5.6 site onto the 8.3 site just by copying over the required files. The theme works but is just missing all the content. I have then imported the XML and all the users, stacks and pages appear but with errors.
I assume I need to rebuild the theme, recreate the groups, page types, assign the templates then I should be able to map the content into the appropriate page areas. But not all the page areas are appearing as an option under Installed Areas despite the page types being mapped.
Does something need to fundamentally change in the theme files for those areas to be registered? Or am I missing something else entirely? I have seen the video but I am not getting the same results.
Thanks.

I recall in this process that sometimes areas don't appear as a mapping option until they have been used at least once on the site. I think it was as simple as just creating a throwaway page and putting some dummy content on it - otherwise concrete5 doesn't have a way to detect the areas.
Yes, that was it. Create a dummy page, insert some random content in the areas then map them. Thanks.
