Missing WYSIWYG Editor :(
Permalink
All is well except that I have no WYSIWYG editor included. I have a tiny postage stamp sized area in which I can add html only. How do I activate the editor?
Is it TinyMCE or similar?
See attached file to see what I mean by the small editing area.

Thanks for your reply Griebel but while the editor problem might be with the host, I'm with a very good one. I am only assuming that the editor might be TinyMCE - I've no idea what it is and was hoping that the Concrete people might have found this before and can point to the probable cause.
yes the editor is tinymce.
i've only seen this when the javascript doesn't fully load. Try clearing your cache and reloading the page.. sometimes close all browser sessions and reload them - i find it very rarely happens to me when i've just had too much going for too long..
what browser/platform are you on?

Just solved it. Well found the reason for it anyway. Cleaning the cache and cookies didn't help.
When I changed browsers all was okay. Some extension in Firefox must have been interferoing because when I dusted off Internet Explorer, TinyMCE started up.
My world is perfect once more!
:) Thanks for your response.

yeah we've seen people have trouble with some firefox ad-blocker extensions.. I use a un-modded version of firefox as my primary browser with no issue - but i'm not sure if we can really worry about every possible FF extension. ;)
Do you know what extension caused the problem?
And might have had a customer with the same problem and having a few information about this problem might be useful!
thanks!

Hi Remo and Frz,
I haven't yet determined which Firefox extenaion is the culprit. I use the same extension loaded Firefox browser with TinyMCE as the on-line editor on another CMS site (which uses CMSSimple) without problems.
Admittedly that site is a few years old now and the TinyMCE version is probably a much earlier version. Some extension I have added to Firefox is inhibiting Java. I don't have the time or inclination to find out which extension is the trouble.
The simple answer for you or a client having the problem (of TinyMCE not starting up) is to either use IE on a Windows machine just for editing your site, or on a Linux machine use Google's "Chrome" browser. Both work well. My son has a Mac and his Safari browser apparently works fine on his Concrete5 site.

good to hear...
if you dont mind my asking, how would you compare cmssimple and concrete5?

I have tried everything. But i have the same problem.
I am running under Vista.
I have tried IE8, Firefox 3.0.8 and Google Chrome 1.0.154.53, but no luck. One time I got the editor up running in Google Chrome. But now it will not run any more.
Either the problem is your code or my hosting PHP setup is wrong. Please suply me with at phpinfo page with the correct server setup. I will then change the server.
I will attach my phpinfo in a pdf file.
Or if you have found a code error - please supply me with a fix.
Best regards
Michael

Have you tried a different machine? I say this because I had this problem as well a few months back, on localhost.
At first I tried different browsers and had the same problem. I then switched to my wifes PC and everything worked fine, so I concluded it wasnt the site. It may help you narrow down the problem.
I still have odd quirks with my pc and C5, when working on the site even though its now hosted. Probably because of all the junk I have installed.

Just found out some interesting thing about subject. If I change to "advanced" under "sitewide settings" i works, but when i change it back to "simple" it stops working.
And now when I choose to insert picture under "advanced", the picture dialog box will come up under the editor window..

Ok, Got Tiny_MCE to work every time now. But every time I click a button where a popup dialog will appear, the dialog appear under the editor window (faded out), and if I click another button with dialog, it will also come up under the editor window, and the popups are not accessible.
What I have done now to get Tiny_MCE working is to install the new version (3.2.2.3). And I copied the “concrete” theme to the theme directory for the new version. Then I changed the theme to - theme : "concrete" – under custom content toolbars.
So my conclusion is that all the fuss with the Tiny_MCE integration has some issues. And one thing I would suggest instead of making the possibility to choose the standard Tiny_MCE templates (Simple, Advanced ect.), is to make a sort of command panel where you can disable or enable buttons in the editor window.
Best regards

You have a secure system and run software that blocks browsers loading bad javascript?

yea on my mac I am now getting errors I think they might be style sheet related but it works fine om my pc...
I changed to version 3 for a few days ago, and now upgrated to 5.3.1.1.
And it now seems that everything is working good. Even the upgrate went flawless.

I had this same issue in IE8. Firefox & Chrome worked fine, but IE8 would give me that same tiny postage stamp sized HTML window, just like your uploaded image.
It turns out that I overlooked a load error that appeared in the lower left corner of IE8 (looks like a yield sing). Opening it up, the error message showed that one of my other javascript files had a problem loading. I was using an older version of curvyCorners that did not play nice with IE8. After upgrading to a newer version, everything loads fine and the TinyMCE editor works fine again.
So bottomline: make sure that your page & scripts are all loading cleanly first!

Jantony,
The way I ultimately "fixed" the problem was this. In "Settings > Rich Text Editor" I chose the "Custom" radio button. Then in the script text that appears, on the second line (plugins) I removed the word ",advlink" (along with one comma) and it fixes the problem.
The same word appears further down in the next block (for advanced setting) but you can leave that in. This enables a reasonable editor except things like tables aren't included.

Of course while that sort of fixes the Firefox issue, I now use Chrome for editing the site (with Advanced Editor selected) and all is well.
I know this is an old thread but I am now experiencing this issue ONLY in the EXPAND-COLLAPSE addon. Everywhere else is fine.
But again, get a good hosting provider, it's should solve your problem. It did for me.
