Multiple sites using single core with different domain names in 8.5.1

Hi everyone,
I have approximately seven sites I have built inside a single core. The main site is top level in the sitemap. Some of the sites are to be subdomains and others have their own TLD.
I know that 9 is going to have this built into the core but, we can't wait for that. And the old plugin doesn't work for 8.5.1.
Can anyone provide some direction on how to do this? I have full access to the server and DNS.

I think (could be wrong) multisite is planned for 8.6. One of the things still to be implemented is managing the licensing of themes and addons on a multisite install. The standard license is per site, not per installation.
not sure it it answers your question, but we have many c5 instances, with a symlink to /concrete and some /packages/... and it works perfectly well
on c58 and greater, you can even script the update with the command line interface concrete/bin/concrete5 c5:update
nevertheless, we are waiting with great impatience real multsites with c5.9

Could you please tell me a bit more about how the symlink setup works? I'm not finding much.
