Multiple Videos on a page - none auto starting
Permalink
I'm fairly new to C5 and have spent hours looking through these forums for information on one subject. How to place several video blocks on one page, yet have none of them start to play until a viewer clicks on them individually.
I have found in another post, an update lowplayer that works well in not auto-starting a single video placed on a page, yet if you try to place two or more, only the first one shows up on the screen, the others all don't show.
Is anyone developing something that will allow me to put 2, 3, 4 or more video's on a page, yet have none of them start up until a user clicks on one?
Or is there something available now that I just haven't stumbled across yet?
Any help appreciated.

Thanks eylon, that sounds just what I need - and I'm guessing, other too. I took a look at the page, the player looks great - would be nice to see two or more examples of it running on the same page though.
I look forward to it being available in the marketplace

Hey Colin,
I went ahead and put five copies of the block together onto the same page:
http://eclecticdesignstudio.com/code/concrete/example/index.php/abo...
I got a confirmation from one of the developers that the block was good to go, so I'm hoping that I'll get another confirmation today so that it can be approved.

Thanks Eylon, got the message about it being approved. It will be very popular if all the posts I have read on the forum are anything to go by.
Going to buy it later. Well done and thanks for the effort taken in making this.

FYI:
I just posted an update for the Flash Video block. You can now generate poster frame images directly from a live preview window while you are editing the block

Great idea. Shame I can't get hold of the updated version without buying it again! I cannot see any way to download the revised obne other than the first version which I bought.
But thanks anyway

OK, it came up in my C5 dashboard with a button to download and install. Now nothing works!!!
I pressed download and install, the screen went blank for 20 seconds, nothing happend. I wen tback to dashboard and it shows up as still waiting for download and install, BUT now my original version no loner works either.
The upgrade has completely broken everything!
How can I fix this manually - obviously the upgrade system is useless.

I have discovered by looking via ftp, that whatever the update process tried to do, it wiped out allthe original flashvideo version 1 files - the folder is blank?
I tried the update again later and it seemed to work, I can now see the box the pick a screen file etc, BUT every one of my original videos created with version 1 have now disapeared off all my pages, and whatever the update is that has been installed, it does not actually dispaly any videos when you add them
ALL I WANT is for my old version 1.0 files back - this new update does not seem to be any good at all!!
HOW do I get back to something that works??????

Oh this just gets worse and worse. I loggd out and then back into my site, and now, there is no longer an add to main key at the bottom of any page that previously had a video so I can't add anyhting. Also, I can no longer get into the functionalut part of site to add or update anythjing - when I click the menu button for add funtionality, I get blank screen and the word 'done' at the bottom.
This is getting ridiculous

Oh wow! I'm sorry the update system has caused you so much trouble! I've never actually used it before, so I had no idea that it could turn out so poorly.
I'm going to send you the updated version as a private message. Then you can install it by hand rather than using the Marketplace integration. Then we'll just need to figure out how to clean things up.
As far as I know, in case you aren't able to get back to the add functionality screen, you should be able to remove most traces of the package by removing the files and by removing the btFlashVideo table from your database.
This sounds like a definite glitch in Concrete, though, so we'll have to get someone in the loop here so we can at least report the problem, and hopefully get it fixed for you quickly.

No problem. If life was easy they would let just anybody do it!
I am afraid I do not know how to manually copy new blocks into Concrete, you will have to tell me which folders I need to copy The files into along with anything I need to delete.
I also assume the zip file has all the files in? I was not sure if the new version just added files to version 1 or if it replaced them all, but it appears I have completely lost version 1 from the computer in the midst of the upgrade process that stopped working.
In the meantime I have done two things. 1. is to repair/optimise my concrete tables in PHPMyadmin, which seemed to go OK
Then I did a core tables/schema refresh in Concrete which came up with the following fatal error:-
Fatal error: Call to a member function setPropertiesFromArray() on a non-object in /mounted-storage/home12b/www.colincartwright.co.uk/concrete/models/package.php on line 309
Not sure what this means but it may help somehow.

In the zip file you should have the folder "flash_video", with the folder "blocks" under it. You'll want to put that flash_video folder inside the "packages" directory of your website. It should overwrite anything which may have already been there before.
I would try putting it there then going to the add functionality page again. If it shows up and you are able to install it, cool. If not there might be more steps involved to fix everything.

OK, I have uploaded that. Now I can get into the add functionality section, interestingly the flash video player icon is there but it shows still as version 1. and it still shows up in the update section despite it being up to date.
However, two things:-
1. If I try to add a video to any page, it goes through the motions of adding the boock, I can choose a video (in my case flv files) I can add a screen image or capture one from the video I want to put on the page, but it puts nothing on the page - block just remain empty. Then once its done that, the add_to_main bar at the bottom of the section disapears.
2. If I try to add back videos on pages that have had them on before, the original moveies are gone. Also I cannot now add any new ones because there is no Add_to_main section at the bottom of the pages main panel any more.?

I think you are going to have to recreate the videos you had before. I'm not sure why, but it seems like concrete got your database tables messed up.
Go to Add Functionality and add the block. If it is asking you to upgrade, go ahead and let it upgrade and see if it works (hopefully!)
Once it is installed click on the Flash Video package then use the uninstall link. You should be returned to the Add Functionality page again, and the Flash Video block should show that it is ready to be installed. Go ahead and install it one more time.
Then go back to the page where you want videos and try and add them again. I think this should help fix it for you

I also posted a bug report to try and make sure that your issue is visible. This all sounds like a problem with concrete's Marketplace integration, so I want to make sure the core team is aware of your woes.

I have tried un-installing it and re-installing it, it makes no difference, I get the exact same issues.
I think it may be better if I went back to the old player.
Don't suppose you can send me a link to this?

I just remembered that uninstalling packages does not remove the database table. I think that the database got messed up.
Please, if you can, uninstall the package then open up the database. Remove the database table called "btFlashVideo". Once that is complete you can reinstall the block.
Unfortunately I do not have a copy of version 1.0, but I can assure you that the view for the block has not changed. The changes were made to the edit interface for the block.
I really have the feeling that there are still records in the database for your old blocks, so when concrete messed up the package update it also got things mixed up in the Flash Video database.

Tried removing or dropping the btflash video table after uninstalling the block, then re-installing it. It has not made any difference.
I can try adding video, but nothing shows up, and still when I do the 'add to main' section at section bottom disapears.
I think I may just have to scrap this and start again - it may be the only way.
INterestingly, when I re-install the package it still refers to it as version 1 and not 1.1

I have just tried deleting my entire database, and re-uploading a backup I took 3 days ago, before I installed the upgrade and then re-installing the new flash player. Yet STILL I have the same problem - I can try and add a video, yet nothing displays and then the add to main section goes missing from the section I am working on. Obviously there is some serious issue with the revised player and you need to remove it from the marketplace to save anyone else having such a horrendous issue!
What I need is to get a copy of the one that worked before you changed it. Surely someone must have one??
My only other alternative is to completely scrap my entire cms and begin all over again. I can't see what other solutions there currently are, as no form of video works on the site now. Whatever this did it certaibly made a real mess of over half my site

This may be relevant, or may not, but after installing , un-installing and checking the databse tables directly for info, for the very first time, when I tried to add a video, I decided totry your newly added thing to take a clip from the video to use as an opening image. When I clicked on the bar to obtain the image, it just went to a white screen with 'done' at the bottom of the browser
I never tried it before as the basic videos donl;t even load onto the screen or play.
Before I ask you for a refund, do you or the team want access to my site, my sql or anything, to see what is wrong? I

Hey Colin,
If you wouldn't mind sending me the login information for your server by private email, I'll take a look at all of it for you. Just click on my user name then use the "send email" link

I have attached a screenshot of the bottom of a page I chose at random to add a new flash video block after re-uploading the thing. The small red box below the map is what I see after adding the video, and you will also notice that the 'add to main' section has gone from the bottom of that section now. That is also the case on all pages where we had videos bfore we updated the video player.
Hey Colin,
Thanks for sharing your login info. I was able to find the issue right away.
I am so sorry about this!
Before I sent you the copy of the updated block, I must have deleted some code that was unneeded and left over from the old version of the block. There's one line of code I didn't notice while I was deleting, and this was causing a PHP error on your server.
I set your install to "Development mode" instead of "Production mode" and it gave me the error message I needed to see. The rest of your page wasn't appearing because PHP stopped executing at the bad line.
I fixed it on your server and updated the block on the marketplace. It works great locally, on my server and on your server, too.
Once again, I am so sorry that you experienced this problem, but I'm very glad I was able to help fix it for you!
Have a great Thanksgiving

Thanks once again.
Thanks once again.
