Not sure if this is possible or not, I have taken the original file block and set up 2 different templates, one has a PDF icon the other a Word Doc icon. The idea was for the client to be able to upload either a PDF or a Doc file then choose custom template and select the corresponding template. The problem I have is when you change the custom template on one file block it changes them all. Is it not possible to have multiple custom templates for a block?
