My CollectionVersionBlocks table has several hundred thousand rows. Normal?

I have a well-used C5 install whose CollectVersionBlocks table has grown to 257,000 rows.
It's by far the largest table in the install; the "Pages" table has 2,000 rows, the "Blocks" one 8,800.
Is this normal?
Can I clean it up somehow? Which rows would I have to leave standing?
