Need Shared Host suggestions that will allow for 2-3 character minimum in MySQL searches

This has been an ongoing issue for some time on a specific website of mine,http://www.azselfstorage.org. My co-developer boiled it down to the issue being a MySQL setting on the host side setting the character minimum to 4. The problem is a good portion of the records are things like BPI Capitol, A-AAA Storage, A Advanced Storage, AAA Auctions etc. They either consist of initials or have the antiquated A-AAA crap in their name and the "-" is not recognized.
I can't afford a dedicated hosting set up and have to use a shared hosting account. Are there any shared hosting accounts that anyone can recommend that allow for the minimum to be set to a lower number of characters? I currently use Bluehost and theirs is set to 4. I spoke with them and they said that as long as I am on a shared server that 4 was the minimum and best they could do.

Is there seriously no one else with similar issues? This is hugely important to how the search function on the site operates and without it corrected, it defeats the purpose of the association selling listings if they can't be found. Please... does anyone have any suggestions?
