non content page

I know I`ve seen a previous post on this but just cant track it again. I have a main page containing four subpages. The main page has no content - its just a category header on the main menu bar. How do I make this page non-clickable or non-accessible?
you could edit the page properties and choose to exclude it from nav, page list, and sitemap. Then change the page permissions to only allow admins to view it.
Tried the page properties but this is not giving me the result I want.
I'll try permissions. Have'nt tried that yet.
Well that also hides all of the sub pages. Argh!
