Non-ssl and ssl pages

I'm new to Concrete5 and not sure how to accomplish this. I have an association website where some of the pages are open to the general public and some are member only pages. I set up Concrete5 under https as suggested by Concrete5, but now I'm not sure how to manage non ssl pages. Should I setup another instance of Concrete5 under non ssl and run basically two different sites linked together? (i.e. general pages and https pages)

No you do not need to install another c5. This free addon might meet what you are trying to accomplish: http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/force-ssl/...

Would it then be better if Concrete5 were installed as regular http instead of https?

When you say you set up C5 under https, do you mean you modified your root/config/site.php file and/or you .htaccess file? I would say there is no problem setting it up on a http, but I don't guess it would matter if you were using the force-ssl addon.
