Orders Not being ticked as complete

When some goes through the checkout process via paypal they are directed back to the site but sometimes and not always it doesn't tick up the order as being complete even though money has been taken, so i doesn't send out any emails etc.
We thought it could be caching and turned caching off for the checkout pages but it still seems to do it but not on every order.

This can occur when the message back from Paypal (called the 'IPN') is blocked for some reason - there's nothing that actually tells the shop to complete the order in that case.

My suggestion is to contact your host and ask if 'Mod Security' has blocked any requests to the url: http://yourdomain./packages/core_commerce/payment_method_action...
and if so, ask them to whitelist the security rules that have kicked in.

This happened for me yesterday actually. It can unfortunately happen out of the blue, as the modsec rules are regularly (and automatically) updated.
